Council directs closure of Bright SHS; says 90% of its graduates drop out of universities

The Old Students of the Bright Senior High School has vehemently rejected a number of allegations made by the Akyem-Abuakwa Traditional Council which sought to denigrate the school.

In a carefully crafted statement, the old students association said it “strongly disagrees” with the council as it lists and counters claims by the council.

The Akyem-Abuakwa Traditional Council had in an earlier statement called for the closure of the Bright SHS following the August 5 display of violence by some students when they attacked and beat invigilators and a journalist in the ongoing WASSCE.

But the old student said the grounds on which the Council based its decision to call for the closure of the school were unjustifiable.

It also mentioned that claims by the Traditional Council that graduates of Bright SHS are unable to go beyond the first year at public university are “mere accusations and expression of opinions”.

“So again, we the Old Students of the reputable Bright senior high school want to make it clear to the general public that the statement made by Akyem-Abuakwa Traditional Council is a sheer grammatical construction, hence need not to be considered.”

Meanwhile, the old students have condemned the behaviour of the WASSCE candidates as “terribly demeaning and uncalled for”, and have apologised to Ghanaians especially to those who were directly affected by the actions of the students.
