I need you all to return to duty – Suspended KATH CEO appeals to striking staff

The suspended Chief Executive Officer of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Dr. (Med) Paa Kwesi Baidoo, has urged staff of the facility who are currently on strike over his suspension to resume work.

In a passionate call, he acknowledged the solidarity support of the staff but entreated them to call off their strike.

The embattled CEO appeal came on the back of disruptions of healthcare delivery at the facility, with patients reportedly stranded on Monday, June 8, 2026, amid doctors’ and nurses’ protests against his suspension.

In a letter addressed to the striking staff, Dr. Baidoo expressed gratitude to the staff for what he described as their “show of solidarity” but asked them to reconsider their decision in the best interest of the nation.

“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all staff of the hospital for your show of solidarity with me during this period. I am very grateful for your support.

“However, I need you all to return back to duty in the supreme interest of Ghanaians and our valued patients,” he stated.

Dr. Baidoo noted that he deferred the outcome of his suspension to the supreme wisdom of the Minister of Health, Dr. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, and the Board of KATH.

Whilst calls for the reinstatement of the CEO increase, the Ministry of Health has defended its suspension decision, stating that it was carefully considered to uphold administrative discipline.
