Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Public Sector Reforms Secretariat, Dr. Thomas Kusi Boafo, has branded persons who are overly religious as  unsuccessful in business.

According to the CEO, such people have the mindset that there is a spirit being which is working for them to reap profits.

He was dismayed that people neglect work and ‘waste’ all their time on religious activities at church.Kusi Boafo

“Highly religious people are not successful in business…they always have scapegoats to blame for their inability to succeed in their work”, he said in the Twi parlance on Angel FM’s Anɔpa Bɔfoɔ Morning Show on Tuesday, October 26, 2021.

He counselled such individuals to schedule their time properly and know when to work and when to dedicate their time for religious activities.

Mary, Joseph and the disciples of Jesus in the bible, he said, all had jobs aside their religious duties thus, religion shouldn’t be a hindrance to work.

Touching on the issue of fake prophesies, he noted that some pastors target their prophesies at successful people with the intention to ‘trend’ on social media.

“The pastors tailor their prophesies to meet certain requirements…So, we are in a highly religious economic world where we cheat people. I know a place where a GHS1 bottled water has been sold to someone for GHS500 [for religious purposes]”

Mr. Thomas Kusi-Boafo said that most of these persons parading themselves as men of God would be impoverished without their church members since they are not engaged in any economic venture beyond ‘selling fake prophesies’.

While admitting that the church has been instrumental in nation’s development agenda, he called for a reform in how religious activities are being conducted citing Rwanda as an example.
