Government owned network service provider, AirtelTigo, has joined other players in the telecommunications industry in cutting back costs borne by customers during mobile money transactions.
The company revised downwards charges on transfers between ATMoney subscribers and from the same service to other networks by 25%.
Consequently, users of the network are charged 0.75% on transactions instead of the initial 1% charge. Thus, on every GH₵100.00 transferred for instance, the telco charges 75 pesewas instead of GH₵1.00.
This downward review took effect from May 1, 2022 according to the service provider.
The move forms part of the network’s efforts to mitigate the financial burdens borne by the customers amid the implementation of the electronic transaction levy (e-levy).
Meanwhile the change does not affect the e-levy charged on transfers initiated above GH₵100.00. Any amount transferred from an individual’s account to another person’s would attract a charge of 1.5% as tax to the state.
