Top midfielder of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Richmond Lamptey has been slapped with a ban of two and half years (30 months), for his involvement in a match-fixing scandal that hit the Ghanaian Football space in the 2021/2022 season.

This is after he was found guilty of match manipulating in the infamous Obuasi AshantiGold and Inter Allies 7-0 match in last season’s GPL.

After an extensive investigation into the said game, the 25-year-old former Inter Allies midfielder was charged with two counts of breaching Article 34(6)(d) of the GFA Premier league regulations, 2019 and Article 26(1) & (2) of the GFA Code of Ethics, 2019.

To that end, the prosecution says “Richmond Lamptey of Inter Allies FC is hereby banned for a period of 30 months in accordance with Article 34.5(d)(i) of the Ghana Premier League Regulations.”

He joined the Porcupine Warriors from Inter Allies on a three-year deal before the start of the ongoing 2021/22 football season.

Inter Allies who are currently playing in the Division One league due to poor performance in the league in the 2021 season, have been demoted to the Division Two League starting from the 2022/23 season.

A fine of GHC100,000.00 has also been imposed on them.

The prosecution, however, banned Danso Wiredu Mensah, Alex Aso, Abdul Kadir Mohammed, Isah Ali, Andy Okpe, and Boye Joseph Markwei for two years for their failure to honor invitations by the GFA’s Disciplinary Committee.
