Your demo must not go beyond 4pm – Court orders Arise Ghana protesters

A High Court in Accra has ruled that the demonstration scheduled for Tuesday, June 28, by the Arise Ghana group should not extend beyond 4:00 pm.

Her Ladyship Comfort Kwasiwor Tasiame, who presided over the court ruled that organisers of the Arise Ghana #KromAyeShe demonstration should commence at 8:00 on Tuesday morning.

According to the High Court, the converging point should be at the Obra Spot at Kwame Nkrumah Circle and end at the Independence Square.

The ruling comes after the Ghana Police Service went to court to halt organisers of the #KromAyeShe demonstrators from going forward with their intended 2-day protest.

The group had hoped to end their two-day protest at 8: 00pm daily but the Police Service raised security red flags following the recent terrorism attacks within the West-African Region.

However, the legal team for Arise Ghana disagreed with the police with the lead counsel, Godwin Edudzie Tamakloe arguing that they have demonstrated good faith and engaged the police as early as June 2, 2022.

He expressed shock at the service’s stance describing their application as “playing on the emotional keyboard of this honourable court by mongering fear.”

He thus prayed the court to do a balancing act between the 3pm the police was proposing and 8pm as proposed by the organisers; in the event that the court was minded to grant the police order.

Her Ladyship, Comfort Kwasiwor Tasiame, nonetheless called for peace urging bth parties to consider the interest of Ghana above all else.

To the organisers, Her Ladyship said, “I believe within that time whatever message you want us to hear you can carry it across”.
