The General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has announced his locus in the party’s upcoming national executive election slated for December this year.
According to one of the longest-serving general secretaries of the NDC, he will not seek re-election in the party’s December 17, 2022, national executive elections.
Speaking in an interview with Accra-based Radio Gold on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, Asiedu Nketiah declared that although he is ready for the party to use him for any position, he is considering retiring from politics.
“Age plays a major role in everything. This job of a General Secretary involves a lot of your time, and energy among others.
“I have considered all these, and I am of the firm view that I won’t contest again. What I am saying is that I won’t seek re-election as General Secretary. I have two other options at hand; either I go for the chairmanship or retire from politics,” Mr Nketiah said.
Asked if the claims of him contesting the incumbent chairman Samuel Ofosu Ampofo were true, he refused to officially confirm and was quick to explain that whoever comes out to compete with Mr Ofosu Ampofo will not be problematic.
The NDC has announced that it will elect its national executives on December 17, 2022.
It noted aspirants for the national executive positions will be required to take nomination forms from October 20 to October 21, complete the forms within two weeks and file their nominations between November 5 and November 6, 2022.
He said all persons who file their nominations successfully for national executive positions will be vetted from 9th November to 10th November 2022.
