Former President John Dramani Mahama has counseled Ghanaians not to resort to committing suicide as a solution to the current levels of economic hardship facing the country.
He intimated that although Ghana is battling its worst economic challenges in 30 years, suicide should never be seen as means to escape from the situation.
Mr. Mahama’s advice was in reaction to the development of a man who committed suicide by electrocution on a high-tension pole in Kasoa in the Central Region.
The deceased known as one Kofi Kakra, believed to be a driver’s mate reportedly cited life struggles he is going through due to the recent economic hardship before ending his life.
Residents who rushed to the scene upon seeing the young man on the high-tension pole said they lured him with money to rescind his decision, but all their efforts proved futile.
The former President described the development as “sad” and further admonished the public to “be each other’s keeper and keep hope alive.”
He was hopeful that “even in the darkest night, there will always come the dawn” for the sun to rise again therefore “let’s keep hope alive.”
