Bawku Conflict: Ban on tricycles lifted

The ban imposed on the operation of Tricycles in Bawku and its environs has temporary been lifted

The Upper East Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has temporally lifted the ban it placed on the operations of tricycles in the Bawku municipality.

The move according to REGSEC follows numerous appeals from public sector workers in the municipality on the difficulties faced commuting to work.

The imposed ban was effective Monday, September 19, 2022, in the Bawku municipality as part of security measures due to the deteriorating security situation in the area.

But REGSEC in a statement said following its meeting held on Tuesday, October 18, 2022, it decided to lift the ban since there has been some relative peace in the area.

“Temporary ban on the operations of the tricycles is lifted with immediate effect in Bawku and its environs. This serves a good will gesture in view of the relative peace the area is currently enjoying.”

To ensure the identification of every tricycle in the area, REGSEC directed MUSEC to register all tricycles and ascribe numbers embossed on each of them and charged them to ensure strict enforcement of this directive.

It further appealed “to the feuding factions to lay down their arms for the sake of peace and development and the unwanted lost of lives and property.
