Veteran broadcaster, Nana Yaa Brefo Danso, is the first woman to have ever gone 4,550 deep at the Community Mining pit in Tarkwa in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality of the Western Region.
That is equivalent to climbing the height of eight of Accra’s Twin Towers (524 feet) or 19 times the Vilagio (233 feet) located at Airport also in Accra. 
The co-host of the Anɔpa Bɔfoɔ morning show on Angel 102.9FM and Angel TV in Accra, joined her other colleagues including the show producer, Jerry Tsatro Mordy, to take a tour of the underground mine on Saturday, June 10, 2023.
They were led into the pit by Chairman of Tarkwa Community Mining worker’s union, Kofi Zong; organiser, Francis Kwao, as well as the General Manager, Mark Conduah.
Nana Yaa Brefo and her crew sat in the mine locomotive and were able to go as deep as the 7th level, which is 4,550 feet.
The pit is made up 28 levels, each level being 650 feet deep underground, that’s 18,200 feet in the belly of the earth, and spent close to 30 minutes to interact with the miners deep underground.

The crew are in the mining town to have a first hand experience of the community mining program introduced in November 2021, by the government.
The workers at the site hailed the versatile presenter for making the bold decision to visit the underground mine. 
The Community mining schemes, first rolled out by the IMCIM and later integrated into the NAELP, have been central to recent government efforts.
These schemes aim to bolster the participation of residents of host communities in small-scale mining operations, while cracking down on illegal practices.
