A Lecturer at the University of Cape Coast, Dr. Kingsley Adjei has questioned the rationale behind the President, Nana Akufo-Addo’s decision to ease some restrictions imposed on the country to stop the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Ghana.

The President on Sunday 31st June, 2020 in his 10th address to the nation on the actions undertaken by the government to fight the disease announced the reopening of religious centres.

He said up to a 100 people can be at a worship centre at a time.

All churches and mosques have also been encouraged to observe various COVID-19 protocols during worship.

This order has been met with mixed feelings.

Commenting on this on “Anopa Bɔfoɔ” on Angel 102.9FM hosted by Captain Smart, the Senior Lecturer at the Department of Sociology and Anthropology said he is still struggling to understand why the President eased the restrictions at this time.

He stated that he would have taken his time to reopen the churches and mosques if he were the President.

He further noted that it will be difficult for churches with larger congregations to fellowship because the new directive permits just 100 congregants at a time.

Congregants can fellowship for just an hour.

He further advised the Electoral Commission (EC) and the political parties to becareful when going about their registrations.
