The National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, says President Nana Akufo Addo, is an “embodiment of corruption”.

His comment follows the resignation of the Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu, who blamed the President’s interference in the work of his office, as one of the reasons for his exit.

According to him, the President’s eagerness to fight corruption has been lost because he [Akufo Addo] falls short.

The NDC communicator tweeted: “A President, who has fought and oppressed all critical voices who’ve dared to expose the rot he is superintending over. His cup is now full. The fight against corruption has been lost.”

He added “It is evil to appoint a man as SP, and refuse to pay him for 2 years. Deliberately starve his office of basic resources necessary for his work. And when he indicts you for corruption, threaten him with death.”

Martin Amidu resign as Special Prosecutor

Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu, on Monday, November 16, 2020, resigned from office.

In a letter addressed to President Nana Akufo-Addo, Martin Amidu said his decision is to “enable Your Excellency to take steps to appoint a replacement to that position as required by law.”

He suggested that President Akufo-Addo has not been able to ensure his independence and freedom of action.

“The one condition upon which I accepted to be nominated as the Special Prosecutor when you invited me to your Office on 10th January 2018 was your firm promise to me that you will respect and ensure same by your Government for my independence and freedom of action as the Special Prosecutor,”
