A Superintendent of the Ghana Police Service has cautioned the public against fabrication of falsehoods intended to stir the public for their own personal interests.

According to Alexander Obeng, such propagation of falsehoods are criminal offences that have consequences on the general well-being of the public.

He said they sometimes “deter, prohibits, engender fear, and do not allow people to exhibit their natural talents and get recoiled.”

He further noted that forces state institutions to deploy resources with the aim of curbing the challenges which in actual fact are non-existent.

“We don’t have time. We need to get things done right. So we should not create problems. When you do that you force the country through its agencies to deploy scarce resources to where they are not supposed to be and it is a cost to the country” he said on 3FM.

Mr. Obeng spoke in relation to Shatta Wale’s fake shooting incident which occurred on October 18, 2021 in the Greater Accra Region and on which issue he is expected to be processed before court on October 20, 2021.

He noted that the Dance Hall artist will be charged with spreading of false information and for causing fear and panic among other charges, depending on the outcome of the investigations he is undergoing currently.

Shatta Wale was arrested on October 19, 2021 together with two accomplices after he turned himself in, following the public announcement that he was wanted by the Ghana Police.
