The Coalition of transport operators is seeking a 30% upward adjustment in transport fares, following the reintroduction of the price stabilisation levy on petroleum products.

According to the Head of Communications for the Coalition, Abas Ibrahim Moro, the 30% figure was arrived at following a crunch meeting on Thursday, February 3, 2022, by a committee they have put together to review the situation.Abass Morro

He explained on the Anopa Bofo morning show on Angel FM that, fuel prices have increased from 14% to 70.7% from 2021 to 2022, while drivers have only enjoyed a 13% increment, with a threshold of 10%.

While noting that “driving was a very lucrative job until recently,” he indicated that drivers have sacrificed a lot. He said there has been an increase in prices of lubricants, spare parts and fuel prices which make the driving business less lucrative lately.

Meanwhile, the coalition will on Monday, February 7, present their petition to the Ministry of Transport to that effect and hoped the government will grant their request.
