The Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has disclosed that the Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Awdoa Safo, has requested for another extension of her leave from Parliament.

According to him, the legislature wrote to the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, seeking to extend her leave by another four weeks.

“What I can say now is that on Wednesday, she brought a letter, asking for four weeks extension.”

The Parliamentary Affairs Minister revealed that the letter, which was dated Monday, February 28, was addressed to the Speaker, while he was copied in it.

The Dome-Kwabenya MP had stated that her injured child is still responding to treatment.

During an interview on Neat FM, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu however said he doesn’t know whether Adwoa Safo herself is doing well or otherwise.

He noted that “I cannot say if the Speaker has agreed to the extension or not and I haven’t had any discussions with the Speaker too,”

The Speaker earlier denied reports that he granted permission to embattled Sarah Adwoa Safo, to absent herself from the House on health grounds.

Describing such reportage as fake news, he said “It’s important I diffuse some fake news, which is being circulated that I granted an interview to say that Adwoa Safo received permission from me to absent herself from Parliament on health grounds. I want it to be known by all; that I have not granted any such interview anywhere. I’ve not said anything like that anywhere.

The Dome-Kwabenya legislature, who has been on leave since last year, has been criticized for her protracted absence from parliament.

Some Ghanaians descended on her after videos of her emerged dancing on Tik Tok while neglecting her parliamentary duties.

While members of the NPP are lambasting her for holding government to ransom and demanding to be made Deputy Majority Leader, some NDC members have described her absence as more relevant to Ghanaians than the presence of the 136 NPP legislators.
