The Director of Research at the Presidency, Dr. Isaac Owusu Mensah has said Ghanaian electorates have reposed their trust in the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) more than the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) going into the 2024 general elections.

He said this was established through a data collected recently across the country by a team of researchers.

Earlier this month, London-based research firm, Economic Intelligence Unit (EIU) predicted in its fiver year findings on Ghana that the NDC stands a chance of winning the next election with the prospect of a new candidate.

However, a latest data collected by Dr. Isaac Owusu Mensah’s led research team indicated that the NPP wins slightly in their podcast should the election be held today.

Delving into the data collected on Angel FM’s Anopa Bofoɔ morning show hosted by Kofi Adoma Nwanwani, he said, although there was mixed reaction from respondents with regards to their standard of living, Ghanaians still trust the President Akufo-Addo led administration.

“Slim margin because, we have being around the entire the country and collected the data. And per the data, you could see people complaining about hardship in the country, people complaining of too many taxes and others too complaining about other issues”

“However, others too are happy about the ongoing developmental projects carried by the government” Dr. Isaac Mensah explained.

He also noted that the fundamental questions of the findings were centered on whom voters would repose their trust in should elections be held today, base on standard of living, the current economic hardship and the performances of both parties in governing the state.

He added that based on the earlier mentioned factors, the voters decided to entrust their future in the hands of the New Patriotic Party.

Dr. Isaac Owusu who doubles as a lecturer at the University of Ghana, Legon, further indicated that the projection of the win is contingent on two factors, ie, the continues performance of the government and how the party will manage issues internally.

“It depends on how the party runs its affairs especially how they conduct their Presidential and Parliamentary primaries and how the losers will accept their defeats and come on board is what will make the slim work” he told Kofi Adoma Nwanwani.

Asked if the citizens were specific to pinpoint some better conditions which make them believe the government must continue, he responded that “…they admitted that their standards of living was difficult,” but, attributed the situation to the Russia invasion of Ukraine and not government’s doing.

Dr. Isaac Owusu Mensah thus reiterated that the apportioning of blames of the economic challenges to the Russia and Ukraine uprising clearly shows how appreciative the people in the country are, knowing that the current hardship is a globally menace.
