A former Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Fomena, Akwasi Nti Asamoah, has accused the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the party, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi of fueling tensions within the party in the constituency.

According to Mr Nti Asamoah, Chairman Wontumi has been scheming to ensure that he gets his followers electedas polling agents in the constituency so he can have his way when the regional elections are due.

The ex-NPP chairman’s claims comes after heavily armed police officers policed polling station elections at Fomena where over 500 polling station officers were elected.

Despite the heavy security presence and surveillance, some aggrieved members of the party still said the electioneering process was unconstitutional.

The former Constituency Chairman blamed the continuous tensions in the constituency on the lack of leadership and apathy from party executives.

“This is a typical leadership failure but you can’t blame anyone but the party leaders in the region for sitting unconcerned for such developments to unfold…,”, Mr. Akwasi Nti Asamoah said in Twi.

The ex-NPP Chairman for the constituency added that Chairman Wontumi does not want other aspirants to have a fair playground for his selfish interests.

“There is no way Chairman Wontumi can deny that he has no hands in what is going on, total popular acclamation without giving level playground for all aspirants”, he declared.

Some angry members of the Party earlier this year demonstrated against the party’s leadership  over alleged preferential treatment of Fomena legislator, Andrew Asiamah while threatening to defect to the opposition NDC over alleged preferential treatment of persons linked to the Independent MP for the area, Andrew Amoako Asiamah.

“Wontumi wants to fix all his loyalists in the polling station position so he can have his way when the regional elections comes off but we are sounding a word of caution that the party structures must be followed because independent candidates cannot lead the party unless the person denounces his independent candidature and realign with the party according to the party constitution,” he said.
