Ghana Premier League outfit, Aduana Stars has temporarily been banned from hosting matches at their favorite home grounds, Nana Agyemang Badu I Stadium in Dormaa.

The decision announced by the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) comes in the wake of alleged violence that occurred after their controversial victory over Tamale City on Sunday, April 2, 2023.

The Dormaa-based club recorded a 1-0 win over Tamale City after scoring a penalty in the 10th minute of added time, extending their lead at the top of the 2022/23 Betpawa Ghana Premier League by three points.

The post-match was, however, marred by violence where the home fans allegedly attacked Tamale City players and damaged their team bus with some players injured.

The GFA in application of Article 14(2) of the GFA Premier League Regulations, said it allows for the closure of any league centre where the safety of clubs, match officials or spectators cannot be guaranteed.

“The GFA may order the closure of any league centre where the safety of clubs, Match Officials or Spectators cannot be guaranteed. The Competitions Department is therefore advised to determine the venue for the Club’s subsequent home matches in accordance with Article 14(3) Premier League Regulations,” the GFA said in statement.

The GFA also stated that the decision was without prejudice to the determination of the case pending before the Disciplinary Committee, who have been charged with hearing the case in accordance with the relevant regulations.

With the temporal ban, Aduana Stars will be compelled to play their home matches away from home.
