A communications team member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Lady Vera Wiredu, has said that she is shocked that Ghanaians through their comments are praising the house helps of former Sanitation Minister, Cecilia Abena Dapaah for allegedly stealing huge sums of money from their mistress.

Reports indicate that the two house helps – 18-year-old Patience Botwe and 30-year-old Sarah Agyei have been accused of stealing cash and goods worth millions from Cecilia Abena Dapaah’s home in Abelenkpe, Accra.

They allegedly stole personal effects belonging to the former Sanitation and Water Resource minister including assorted clothes valued at GH¢95,000, handbags, perfumes, and jewellery worth US$95,000.

They have been charged with conspiracy to commit a crime and five counts of stealing. The alleged theft is reported to have occurred between July and October 2022.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has since placed Ms Cecilia Dapaah under house arrest as they investigate the case.

Commenting on this on Angel Morning Show hosted by Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah, Lady Vera Wiredu said he has been shocked by the public commentary on the issue which subtly praises the house helps for stealing from the former Minister.

“It is disheartening to hear people subtly praising the two house helps for stealing from Cecilia Dapaah all because she is a politician which should not be so….crime is crime and has no colour no matter who is involved…,” she said.

She further called on the public to stop the showering praises on the house helps because that is disingenous and would not morally upright.

Lady Wiredu also encouraged the Special Prosecutor to continue to do yeoman’s job and investigate the case to the latter.

“There is a wrong perception about investigations in this country and this stems from the coup mentality of Ghanaians…we ought to know that we are in a democracy and Cecilia Dapaah just like any Ghanaian deserves a fair trial, so we should exercise patience…,” she added.
