A father of twins in the Greater Accra Region is demanding justice from the management of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital over medical negligence.

He is accusing nurses and doctors of the health facility of negligence after her partner was rendered paralysed shortly after delivering the twins.

Mr Agyekum, believed to be in his 40s, noted that the situation has left him in a state of emotional trauma since he cannot stand to look at her changed wife due to human error.

Narrating his ordeal on the Angel Morning Show hosted by Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah on Monday, August 21, 2023, he said her pregnant wife had gone to the hospital on June 9, 2023 for medical attention when she started feeling uneasy.

However, nurses and doctors on duty at the facility on the said date made known to the pregnant woman that her experience was nothing but labour, hence she was going to be admitted for care, Mr. Agyekum added.

He stressed that for close to six hours, his wife-turned-paralitic was still wailing without proper medical care for birth to occur.

She was subsequently taken to the labour ward and before he could realize she had delivered twins [two boys] through a cesarean section (CS).

Agyekum who could not control his tears, said hours after his wife had conceived, the nurses and doctors denied him access to his wife despite several attempts to see if she was okay after delivery.

“For more than six hours despite my wife delivering two bouncing babies I had not gotten access to see her with my naked eyes. So later I said to myself no, I have to see my wife despite fierce resistance from the nurses and doctors that she was on recovery so I can’t see her.

“I force myself through and immediately I saw my wife’s face. I shouted Jesus, quickly the nurses surrounded me and asked if I were Portia’s husband and I responded yes and they said we have to sit down for some discussion. However I told them I have nothing to discuss with them because I never brought my wife to the hospital as a deceased.”

He continued it was at that juncture he was informed that his wife’s heart failed midway through the process of the CS, however, she was resuccitated but the situation had left her in a serious condition leading to her paralysis.

Mr. Agyekum wants justice to be served his family and called on the president and the appropriate quarters to deal with persistent issues of negligence among the health practitioners.
