The Mepe and other surrounding communities affected by the flood on Wednesday received various relief items from business magnate Mr. Ibrahim Mahama following the flooding of various communities after the spillage of the Akosombo Dam.

The business magnate led his team to donate relief items to the affected communities in Central, South, North Tongu and Keta constituencies.

The items included 20,000 bags of 5kg rice, 24,000 cans of Mackerel, 12,000 bottles of cooking oil, 400 packs of water and 1,000 pieces of student mattresses.

The Chief Executive Officer of Engineers & Planners and Dzata Cement dispatched the relief items to the victims of the Dam spillage on Tuesday, October 24.

The items arrived at Mepe on Tuesday afternoon. Mr. Ibrahim Mahama and his team were welcomed with a durbar by the Chiefs, Queen mothers, The DCE, The MP’s, representatives of NDC and NPP and the good people of the affected communities.

The durbar was held at GP JHS park at Mepe. Mr. Ibrahim Mahama’s donation is the biggest support yet from an individual or any institution to the displaced people some of whom are having to lodge in schools, tents, churches and mosques because their homes were massively flooded following the Akosombo Dam spillage.

Presenting the items to the Chiefs, The DCE of Bator, The MP’s and the people of the affected areas, Mr. Ibrahim Mahama said: “The relief items are to commiserate with the people following the Dam spillage. He also promised to help brilliant but needy students affected by the flood.”

Some of Mr. Ibrahim Mahama companies are either into mining or trading heavy-duty mining equipment to companies in the industry and are also involved in other business interests.

He is the owner of Asutsuare Poultry farm, one of the largest poultry establishments in Ghana. Until recently, his company, MBG, was the Man Diesel Dealer in Ghana.

The new addition to his businesses is Dzata Cement Limited and also Renault Trucks from France. Dzata Cement Limited, is the only Ghanaian-owned Cement Plant, its capacity is 2.6 million tons, and it is the biggest stand-alone plant in Ghana. The cement has started hitting the Ghanaian market.

It’s expected to provide employment opportunities for several thousands of Wholesalers and Retailers, across Ghana and the West African sub-region. The dealership agreement with Renault Trucks was recently signed in France.
