The figure was accumulated out of 845 car crashes, which also got some 1,448 persons injured.

The Central Regional Head of the National Roads Safety Authority Linda Affotey Annang disclosed this in an interview on Darling FM.

The disclosure was made ahead of the NRSA’s annual road safety stakeholders’ awareness programme under the “Arrive Safe Campaign” theme.

In a breakdown of the figures, Ms. Linda Affotey Annang explained that from January to October 2023, a total of 139 persons died while 1,448 were injured from 845 cars crashed.

She detailed that ‘generally road crashes decreased from 875 (2022) to 845 (2023) representing a 3.4 per cent reduction, however, people injured increased from 1,270 to 1,448 representing a 14.0 percent.

Speaking further on the development, she attributed the reduction in the casualties to the stakeholder’s road safety education especially the cautioning against over speeding.

According to the Central Regional Head of the NRSA, from Cape Coast to Komenda, Yamoransa-Assin Praso, and the Kasoa-Winneba sections of the highway recorded the highest numbers of road accidents.

On her part, the Regional Manager of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Lawrence Adom said the stakeholders’ awareness campaign ensures that there is no record of accident before, during, and after the year’s Christmas festivities.

“Authorities will be impounding or fining vehicles of drivers without a valid license, valid roadworthy certificate on the road, therefore any driver who will be at fault will not go scot free,” he added.
