The Director of Operations for Progressive Peoples Party, Divine Nkrumah says Energy Minister, Dr Matthew Opoku-Prempeh should render a sincere apology to Ghanaians for his “uncalled-for” comments ongoing power challenges.

Divine Nkrumah pointed out that the current power challenge is not something that is far from the Ghanaian people and they can feel it.

This call follows statements Dr Opoku-Prempeh made in an interview on March 25, in the Ashanti Region where he equated the request for a load-shedding timetable with harbouring ill intentions towards the nation.

He stayes: “Let those who want the timetable bring it.”

“I don’t know of any timetable because the ECG has said it is not necessary. Why would someone just wish evil for the country?” he asked.

However, according to the PPP Communicator, the government is pretending as if nothing of that sort is happening.

“The New Patriotic Party and the Government are being ‘economical’ on the current ‘Dumsor’ crisis. However, we are experiencing power issues in the country,” he said on Angel Morning Show.

He further pointed out that he was saddened to hear the Minister of Energy, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh respond to issues of national concern in that manner.

He charged the Minster to immediately render an apology to Ghanaians as his comments doesn’t fit his caliber.

“As a minister of state and per his experience in politics, I think he has to be measured in some of his comments because I feel they were disrespectful to Ghanaians…. I think NAPO should apologise to Ghanaians and withdraw the comment he made,” he added.

Over recent months, Ghana has experienced inconsistent electricity provision nationwide, prompting numerous citizens to call for the release of a load-shedding schedule by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and the Energy Ministry, to facilitate better planning.

Despite mounting public pressure and assertions of power outages, both the Energy Ministry and ECG have refuted claims of “dumsor” and have maintained that a formal timetable is unnecessary.
