The Member of Parliament (MP) for Akim Oda constituency in the Eastern Region, Akwasi Acquah has criticised the leader of the Movement for Change, Alan Kyeremanten for claiming that Ghana needs a Christian leader because the country is a Christian country.
Speaking on Angel Morning Show (AMS), he said there is no need to reduce discussions on the upcoming elections to religious affiliations emphasizing that throughout Ghana’s history, many past leaders have identified as Christians but has never seen much progress.
“When it comes to politics, we must transcend the boundaries of religious identity. If religious affiliation were the determining factor, then one might argue that we should appoint a Pope to govern Ghana, given the perception that they are close to God and embody true Christian values…,” he said.
Kwesi Acquah further cautioned against allowing religious considerations to cloud voters’ judgment during elections.
“We must not manipulate the electorate by emphasizing religious identity over competence and capability,” he added.
The Deputy Minister designate for health further urged candidates to propagate their vision for the country in a peaceful atmosphere devoid of any act of negativity.
“At this critical juncture, candidates should showcase their plans and capabilities for national development. Voters should be empowered to choose based on what each candidate can offer and how it aligns with their aspirations, rather than being swayed by religious sentiments,” he added.
