Deputy Attorney-General (AG) Alfred Tuah-Yeboah has said the state will do everything in its powers to ensure former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedina Tamakloe, is extradited to Ghana to serve her 10-year jail term in prison.

His comments come after the Accra High Court on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, gave the former MASLOC CEO a 10-year jail term with hard labor. Also, the former Chief Operating Officer, Daniel Axim, received a five-year sentence with hard labor.

Former MASLOC boss jailed 10 years

The two who were convicted on 78 counts, including causing financial loss to the state, theft, conspiracy to steal, money laundering, and violating public procurement laws stem from the misappropriation of funds intended for MASLOC activities between 2013 and 2016.

However, it is reportedly that Sedina Tamakloe is currently in the United States of America (USA) seeking medical attention, a situation many have raised concerns about the possibility of her serving the jail term.

Speaking on the Angel Morning Show on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, Mr. Tuah-Yeboah indicated that so far as Ghana’s legal framework for extraditing individuals from abroad to face the law is possible, the state will not hesitate to track her back to serve her sentence.

“Yes, it is true that the woman [Sedina Tamakloe] is not here in Ghana and is currently in the USA to seek medical treatment. Thou she has taken full advantage of that and does not want to return to the country, but we should all be mindful that there is law in the country as equal as in every part of the world.

So as such, we [the state] have initiated steps to bring her back to Ghana to serve her sentence in prison for every Ghanaian to see so that in a way it will serve as a deterrent,” the 2002 alumnus of the Ghana School of Law

Mr. Tuah-Yeboah commenting further on the judgement said he feels happy about the court’s verdict despite four years of the trials.

“What I want to say is that there are laws in Ghana here which work effectively but if you are ignorant about it, you will end up saying there are no such laws. Also, when there is a matter before the law court despite its duration [longevity] it does not mean the law will not take its cause.

So, in the first place, I am extremely happy that after four years of this trail, the Court verdict proved that the two go and into prison for 10 years and 5 years respectively.”
