Senior Lecturer at the Department of Political Science at the University of Ghana (UG), Dr. Kumi Ansah-Koi, has shared his opinions on the recent ruling by the Supreme Court, stating that it cannot subvert government policies to implement good governance.

Speaking on the Angel TV show “Yen Man Ghana” on Saturday, November 16, 2024, hosted by Dr. Kwame Asah-Asante, Dr. Kumi Ansah-Koi, stated that the Supreme Court’s decision was aimed at supporting good governance.

“If the majority caucus becomes the minority while the government is aligned with the majority, how can they govern the country? It will lead to numerous problems, and I am not surprised the Supreme Court issued that ruling to prevent such absurdity,” he said.

He further explained that if the judgement of the Supreme Court was against the majority caucus, they would not have the necessary numbers to implement certain decisions, which could hinder national progress.

“There’s nowhere in the world that a court will subvert the government. The Supreme Court always tries to uphold the government for good governance unless individual liberty is at stake,” he stated.

He added that, when it comes to law, it is not just about how the constitution is written but about the interpretation necessary for its implementation.

According to him, he believes that the true meaning of the constitution is not solely based on the language but on the interpretation, which is the legal matter.
