President John Dramani Mahama has cautioned newly sworn-in ministers to remain humble and respectful in their service to Ghanaians.
Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony of the ministers at the presidency, Mahama emphasized that his government will not tolerate any form of arrogance or disrespect towards the very people who entrusted them with power.
He urged the ministers to prioritize the needs and concerns of the citizens.
He explained that Ghanaians have made it clear that the days of tolerating disrespect and gaslighting by government officials are over.
He further stated that citizens will take firm action to punish any administration that takes them for granted.
Mahama, therefore, charged the ministers to serve with humility and candor, always remembering that they serve at the pleasure of the Ghanaian people and that the authority they exercise comes from them.
He cautioned the ministers to exhibit tolerance for the views of the people and work towards meeting their aspirations, adding that his government will not condone arrogance or disrespect towards the electorate.
Mahama also noted that Ghanaians will hold the ministers accountable for the trust placed in their hands. He warned that it will not be business as usual, stating that anti-corruption institutions will be empowered to investigate and take action against any appointee who breaks the law.
He called on all ministers to begin the process of declaring their assets, noting that the Chief of Staff will soon announce a cutoff date by which all eligible appointees must submit their asset declaration forms to the Auditor-General.
