Food vendors in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis who fail to undergo the mandatory health screening risk facing sanctions, the Metropolitan Environmental Officer, Daniel Lamptey, has warned.

According to Mr. Lamptey, only 30% of food vendors willingly visit their office for screening to obtain the required Food Vendors Certificate, while the remaining 70% have to be mobilized before they comply.

He emphasized that the health screening is crucial in ensuring that food vendors do not spread contagious diseases through the food they sell.

Speaking at a training exercise for bakers, organized by the Sekondi-Takoradi Environmental Health Department (EHD), Mr. Lamptey urged all food vendors to prioritize obtaining their health certificates to avoid penalties.

He further assured that the Environmental Health Department will intensify education and enforcement to ensure full compliance, stressing that food safety is a public health priority.

On his part, Kobina Owusu, a facilitator of the exercise reiterated the importance of maintaining proper hygiene in bakeries.

He stated that bakers must ensure both their health and the cleanliness of their workplaces to guarantee the production of safe and healthy food for consumers.

He added that the annual training exercise is part of their commitment to promoting food safety in the metropolis.
