In a shocking incident, a 40 year old disabled man, Joseph Acquah, popularly known as Akwesi, has been lynched to death in Edumadze, a community in the Mfantseman Municipality of the Central Region.

The tragic event reportedly occurred after Akwesi was accused of stealing an amplifier used in a spinning machine during a funeral held on Saturday, February 9, 2025.

Family sources revealed that Akwesi left home around 7:00 AM that day but never returned. His lifeless body was later discovered at a school field with his legs and hands tied with rope and blood stains on his body. The amplifier in question was reportedly found beside him.

Speaking about the heartbreaking loss, the deceased’s mother expressed disbelief at the allegations. “I have never seen my child steal anything because he is a disabled person. I suspect that some people intentionally killed him and placed the amplifier beside him to make others believe he was a thief” she said.

The body has since been deposited at the Saltpond Government Hospital mortuary for autopsy and preservation. Meanwhile, investigations have been launched by the Mankessim Police as the owner of the amplifier remains unidentified.

This incident shows rising concerns about mob justice and wrongful accusations. Authorities and community leaders are being urged to expedite investigations and bring the perpetrators to justice to prevent further tragedies of this nature.
