The former Member of Parliament for the Buem Constituency, Daniel Kwasi Ashiamah, stated that the new government is committed to implementing the 24-hour economy as a means to tackle unemployment among the youth.

Speaking during a panel discussion on the Angel Morning Show with Saddick Adams on March 3, 2025, Mr Ashiamah emphasized that the government made several promises during their campaign, including the 24 hour economy to create job opportunities for youths in the country.

He further highlighted the frustration some youths feel towards politicians, stating, “Some of the youths become furious when they see us.” Despite these challenges, Ashiamah reiterated that the new government is dedicated to launching the 24-hour economy as a strategy to alleviate unemployment.

He stressed that this initiative should benefit both the youth and the wider population, beginning with the agriculture sector.

He expressed concern about the current state of unemployment, stating, “We are suffering today because of the youth, and they will take over in the future.” Ashiamah pointed out the stark reality of job scarcity in the country, questioning how jobs can be created when the situation remains dire. He also noted that politicians often face scrutiny and fear when encountering unemployed youths, saying, “Some of us politicians feel uneasy sitting in our cars when we pass by unemployed youths; if you lack courage, you cannot simply bypass them.”

Ashiamah raised concerns about Ghana’s reliance on imports, asking rhetorically, “If crops are planted on Ghanaian soil, won’t they thrive as expected?” He pointed out that staple items like tomatoes, onions, and cows are being imported from Burkina Faso and questioned why Ghanaians prefer foreign goods despite having local alternatives.

He concluded by noting that Burkinabès have expressed reluctance to allow Ghanaians access to their produce, prompting the question: “What are we going to do as Ghanaians?”
