Director of Operations for the Progressive People’s Party, Divine Nkrumah, is entreating President, John Dramani Mahama to implement pragmatic solutions to improve Ghana’s dying agricultural sector.

During a panel discussion with Saddick Adams on Angel Morning Show (AMS), Divine Nkrumah stressed on his plea to the President to improve the welfare and standard of living of Ghanaian farmers to making the sector more attractive.

According to Nkrumah, the NPP’s planting for food and job policy yielded to a failure as a result of gross thievery of agricultural fertilizers by government appointees and officials.

“Fertilizers meant for farmers were kept in secret rooms by NPP government officials including District Chief Executives (DCEs) and party chairmen, where these officials also sell these products to the public market which resultantly yield benefits to their advantages,” he stated.

Nkrumah asserted that, grassroots would not receive any agricultural benefits if agricultural items such as fertilizers are been imported without any proper implementation and supervision by the government.

“It is of no sense to construct cocoa roads at East Legon,” Divine noted.

He emphasised the needless basis to construct a vital infrastructure needed by rural cocoa farmers at East Legon.

He made these remarks with references to a report from the Auditor General’s Department.

Divine Nkrumah highlighted procurement as one of Ghana’s major challenges and explained that government officials propose brilliant ideas just for their self-centered benefits only, leaving out the nation’s benefits.
