The Planning Manager for the National Roads Safety Authority, Accra branch, Felix Owusu, has highlighted how to minimize road accidents and the importance of signboards in the country.
According to him, the government maintained its commitment to road safety threats to reduce road accidents, including crashes, injuries, and fatalities on Ghana’s major roads.
He made these remarks during a joint exercise with GH-SignBoard, a leading advocacy group on road safety where they embarked on an important mission to fix road signs from Baa-yard to Pokuase on Thursday, March 6, 2025.

“Today, we’re joined with colleagues from GH-SignBoard to embark on this important exercise. I will always say that when it comes to the use of the road, road signs, and markings play a major role because, on the road, it is not everywhere you’ll find a police officer or even a traffic warden to tell you what to do and what not to do… so it’s these road signs that communicate to us while we’re on the road,” he stated.

Mr. Owusu observed that over the years most road signs are often repositioned due to people’s interest in restructuring their shops on roadsides. However, warned that such action poses a safety threat to drivers and users, as they may not see the road signs.

He believed this exercise would help educate citizens who have tampered with any road signs to rectify the issue. He added that the law is against citizens who engage in such activities.
“If you live in an area or even if you have tampered with any of the road signs, please rectify it before the team even gets there, and it is against the law to engage in such activities,” he told journalists at the exercise.

Mr. Owusu concluded that the National Road Safety Authority will continue to help remove threats from the roads to ensure road safety in the country.
