Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, has dismissed calls from the Minority and some Ghanaians, for a load-shedding timetable amid recent intermittent power outages in parts of the country.

Providing an update on the energy sector at a press conference at Jubilee House Friday, March 7, 2025,, Mr Jinapor stated that such calls are not necessary, as the country is not experiencing ‘dumsor’.

While admitting that the power system is weak, he assured that Ghana has enough electricity, currently exporting 300 megawatts to neighboring Burkina Faso and Benin.

Setting the record straight, the minister emphasized that there is no load shedding, making demands for a timetable irrelevant.

He added that since there is no load shedding, there is no need to publish a timetable.

The minister further assured that, despite the system’s fragility, the government is working to procure sufficient fuel and make timely payments to suppliers to stabilize the power supply.

He also revealed that, given Ghana’s high power demand, the government will need approximately $700 million worth of fuel to address the current deficit.

To help manage peak demand and reduce costs, Jinapor announced plans to operationalize the Renewable Energy Investment Fund, which will promote the use of renewable energy and ensure sustainable power generation.
