A leading member of the Movement for Change (MFC), Solomon Owusu has called for the health status of public officials to be disclosed to the public.

During a panel discussion on the Angel Morning Show with Kojo Oppong Kyeremeh on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, he emphasized that since everyone uses public hospitals, public officials should not keep their health reports confidential.

He questioned how citizens can trust that their leaders will not misuse public funds for personal health expenses.

“We will not vote for individuals who are unwell; we are not ready to take care of sicklers and people who are not strong and fit,” he added.

Mr. Owusu commented in response to a proposal by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who called for the establishment of a dedicated hospital for MPs, arguing that the health of parliamentarians should be prioritized.

He pointed out that in the United States,  candidates are required to publicly share their health reports before elections, allowing voters to make informed decisions.

He criticized public officials in Ghana for seeking treatment in private hospitals while keeping their health conditions hidden from the public.

“You cannot expect to conceal your health status whether it’s HIV, syphilis, or gonorrhea from those who elect you,” he asserted.

Mr. Owusu argued that transparency regarding health issues would contribute to improving the country’s healthcare facilities.

“You are not superior to those who place you in power,” he remarked.

He described it as unfair for public officials to expect citizens to rely on health facilities like Korle Bu and Okomfo Anokye for medical care while they use better private facilities for their own treatment.
