The Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, led a team comprising operations, investigation, and intelligence officers to Bawku in the Upper East region to ascertain first-hand information and assess the security situation on the ground.
The IGP’s visit follows a violent clash between some youth and the police, during which one person, Fuseini Iddrisu, unfortunately lost his life.
Five others, including an Police officer and an Immigration officer, sustained gunshot injuries and are on admission receiving medical attention.
Following the incident, some properties belonging to the police including two vehicles and a rented police accommodation at Binduri as well as houses of some of the police officers were damaged.
But the police in a statement indicated that “security has since been intensified” at Bawku and surrounding communities as joint Police and Military patrols continue.
“While at Bawku, the IGP and his team will also commiserate with the deceased family, visit the injured persons on admission, and reach out to officers who lost their properties as a result of the violence,” a portion of the statement reads.
The police assure the public of their continued collaboration with the Ghana Armed Forces, chiefs, opinion leaders, and all other stakeholders to ensure security, law, and order at Bawku.
