The National Peace Council (NPC) expressed grave concern about the recent violent incidents in Bawku and unreservedly called on all the people to ceasefire.
The incident has claimed over 300 lives and destroyed several properties.
In a statement released on Friday, April 11, 2025, the Council described the development as “unfortunate” and expressed worry over the increasing attacks and reprisal actions that have disrupted peace in the area.
“The Council unreservedly calls on all the parties to the conflict to cease fire,” the statement read.
The council commended the swift response by the Minister of the Interior, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), and the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) for their intervention.
It also highlighted the IGP’s visit to Bawku with a strong security presence, which has helped restore relative calm.
While emphasizing peace to prevail, the council appeals to all parties involved in the conflict to lay down their weapons and return to dialogue.
“To this end, the Council further calls on the feuding parties as a matter of urgency to encourage their leadership to embrace the mechanisms put in place including the Asantehene’s mediation process, other State and non-State actors’ work to bring lasting peace to Bawku,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, the Council extended its deep condolences to the family of the deceased and wished those who sustained various degrees of injuries a speedy recovery.
