The Supreme Court has dismissed an oral application filed by former Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame, which sought the removal of the Acting Chief Justice, Baffo-Bonnie, from a five-member panel constituted to hear an injunction case concerning the suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.
President John Dramani Mahama had constituted the five-member panel, with Acting Chief Justice Barfo Bonnie appointed as the chairperson.
However, the former Attorney General objected to Justice Bonnie’s role as chairperson, arguing that his inclusion on the panel, especially in a case involving the suspended Chief Justice raised concerns about impartiality and interference in the administration of justice.
Mr. Yeboah Dame questioned the reconstitution of the panel to include the Acting Chief Justice after proceedings had already commenced, expressing worry that such an arrangement could be seen as prejudicial.
Despite the objections and heated legal arguments, the Supreme Court ultimately dismissed the application and allowed the panel, as constituted, to proceed with the case.
