Minority calls for suspension of GoldBod Acting CEO over ‘dollar-gift’ video

Must Read

The Minority in Parliament is calling on President John Dramani Mahama to take decisive action against the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, following a viral video of him giving out dollars to Evangelist Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, widely known as Nana Agradaa.

The footage has sparked widespread public backlash, prompting an apology from Sammy Gyamfi.

The Minority expressed that the President must act swiftly and suspend Mr. Gyamfi to serve as a deterrent to other government appointees, especially following the launch of the Code of Conduct, which aims to ensure enhanced transparency, accountability, and ethical governance.

Speaking on behalf of the Minority members at a press conference in Accra, Member of Parliament (MP) for Walewale, Dr. Tia Abdul Kabiru Mahama, objected to Mr. Gyamfi’s apology, believing that the apology was not enough.

They, among other things, suggested that sanctioning the Acting GoldBod CEO was the best course of action and called for a full-blown inquiry into the matter.

“This display of financial recklessness is not only a betrayal of public trust but a slap in the face of millions of Ghanaians currently grappling with the devastating effects of cedi inflation and the unbearable cost of living.”

“We the Minority are calling for the immediate sanctioning of Mr. Sammy Gyamfi as Acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board, and a full-scale investigation into the source of the dollar bundle displayed in the viral video,” the Minority demanded.

The Minority further expressed that, “It is even more shameful that this act was committed by someone who has in the past championed populist rhetoric about economic discipline, cedi loyalty, and anti-corruption.”

According to them, since the President warned his appointees about violating his Code of Conduct and the possibility of sanctions, they are wondering why a letter suspending Mr. Gyamfi has been long overdue to aid investigations.

“Just recently, about a week ago, the President clearly told the good people of Ghana that if you violate his Code of Conduct, you are going to face a sanction.

“So, by now, we should have seen a letter being issued dismissing or suspending Mr. Sammy Gyamfi pending further investigations. This is only the right thing to do,” it added.
