The Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Gold Board (Goldbod), Sammy Gyamfi, has finally found relief after President John Dramani Mahama pardoned him over his controversial dollar gift brouhaha.
This follows calls from some sections of the public demanding his dismissal after a viral video surfaced of him giving dollars to the controversial Prophetess, Nana Agradaa.
However, after the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, summoned him [Sammy Gyamfi] and heard his side of the matter, followed by a briefing to the President, he has been set free with a caution to be of good behavior.
This was announced by the Minister of State for Government Communication, Felix Kwakye-Ofosu, during a press briefing at the Jubilee House in Accra on May 14.
He said: “The Acting CEO of Goldbod has been cautioned, with no further action expected to be taken against him,” he told journalists.
Mr. Kwakye-Ofosu further announced the President’s decision on the matter after being briefed upon returning to the country.
“The view is that the Presidency acknowledges Mr. Sammy Gyamfi’s immediate expression of regret. So, that apology has been taken on board,” Mr. Ofosu added.
According to him, the decision was made because Mr. Gyamfi’s public apology complies with one of the sanctions prescribed in the Code of Conduct.
“You would recall that when President Mahama launched the Code of Conduct, he said that one of the remedies for potential breaches is a public apology. He also said one of the potential remedies was a caution from the highest level of government.
“The Chief of Staff cautioned him, having acknowledged the apology and impressed upon him to act in ways that reflect public expectations.”
He further explained, saying, “In view of that, the Presidency does not believe that any further action ought to be taken beyond the apology and the caution.”
He said the government values the feedback received from the public, as they expect high standards in the performance of appointees’ duties as public servants.
“We remain committed to meeting these high standards to ensure that we deliver the best governance to our people. Mr. Sammy Gyamfi has committed to ensuring that such an incident does not recur.”
