The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that Ghana’s Embassy in Washington DC will officially reopen on Thursday, May 29, 2025, after a period of closure due to internal restructuring and reforms.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, the ministry explained that the decision follows the recall of Home-Based Staff and the suspension of Local Staff at the Embassy.

The move, according to the ministry, was part of a broader effort to overhaul operations, restore integrity, and implement critical structural reforms at the diplomatic mission.

The statement said a newly constituted team of seasoned diplomats, led by an experienced officer from the sector has been tasked with managing the Mission and ensuring efficient service delivery.

Additionally, “an Information Technology (IT) team has been deployed” to upgrade digital systems, including the reconfiguration of the Embassy’s website and payment platforms to eliminate all unauthorized and unofficial access links.

The ministry assured the general public that measures have been put in place to address any backlogs and challenges that may have resulted from the temporary suspension of services.

“Any inconvenience resulting from our necessary interventions is deeply regretted,” the statement added.

Furthermore, the ministry indicated that the circumstances that led to the closure of the Embassy have been reported to the Auditor-General and the Attorney-General for appropriate investigation and sanctions.

Reaffirming its commitment to transparency and accountability, the ministry emphasized its dedication to protecting Ghana’s international reputation and enhancing service delivery at all its foreign missions.
