A former Chairperson of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Hajia Hamdatu Ibrahim Hussein, has called on nurses to resume their duties, citing grave concerns over patients’ care and the detrimental impact on the healthcare system.
Hajia Hamdatu urged the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) to reconsider their position on the industrial action, which commenced a couple of weeks ago.
Speaking on the Angel Morning Show (AMS) on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, hosted by Ohemaa Sekyiwaa, she highlighted that the strike has led to significant disruptions in healthcare services, with patients and their families facing immense challenges in accessing medical care.
“Patients are dying, go back to your duty post and negotiate with the government, we can’t sit for this to happen,” she pleaded.
Hajia Hamdatu emphasised the need to prioritise the health and well-being of Ghanaians, stressing that collaborative efforts are essential to resolve the crisis in a peaceful and productive manner.
“I’m pleading with the government for a swift intervention to engage with the nurses and midwives, urging them to return to work while promising to facilitate proper and further negotiations.
“I’m not against nurses and midwives; their case holds substance, but this is an emergency sector. You will meet your demands through effective communication with the government,” she said.
