Deputy Communications Director of New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ernest Owusu Bempah-Bonsu, has argued that 2024 Presidential Candidate of the party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, does not deserve another chance to lead the party.
According to Mr. Bempah, Dr. Bawumia’s performance in the 2024 presidential elections was the worst in the party’s recent history, especially in regions traditionally known to support him.
“Bawumia got zero in 30 polling stations in Northern Region. Apart from Winneba Zongo, Bawumia lost every Zongo in the country,” he claimed.
In a publication described as the “digital fact about Dr. Bawumia,” Mr. Bempah questioned the rationale behind any further endorsement of the former Vice President.
“He can’t be given second chance,” he stated, insisting the numbers speak for themselves.
Mr. Bempah, who also served as Head of Corporate Communications at Ghana National Gas Company under the previous NPP administration, compared Dr. Bawumia’s electoral performance to previous first-time presidential candidates.
“Even the late Prof. Adu-Boahen, former Presidents Kufuor and Akufo-Addo didn’t perform this poorly when they first contested the Presidency in 1992, 2000 and 2008, respectively,” he told Angelonline.com.gh in a follow up interview.
He challenged anyone in the party or outside to refute the figures.
“Let anybody come and challenge that it’s not true,” he declared.
Mr. Bempah believes former Assin Central MP and presidential hopeful Kennedy Agyapong is the right man to lead the NPP into the 2028 general elections.
He expressed confidence that Mr. Agyapong’s candidature is the surest bet to “ultimately win the Presidency for the party” in their quest to reclaim power.
