The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) in Asuogyaman District, Eastern Region, has successfully carried out the evacuation of residents affected by flooding in Frankadua caused by the overflow of River Alabo.
The flood, which occurred without any preceding rainfall, led to extensive damage to homes and personal property in the area.
According to community members, the water levels began rising unexpectedly around midnight on June 16, 2025, leaving many unprepared. They disclosed that the incident echoes a similar event said to have occurred in the community approximately 40 years ago.
In total, 26 households were directly impacted, with 26 individuals displaced from their homes.
NADMO, however, in collaboration with the Asuogyaman District Assembly successfully relocated all the affected persons and are currently being housed at the Baptist Church in Frankadua, which has been designated as a temporary shelter.
“The affected persons have since been safely evacuated, and arrangements are currently being made to house them at Baptist Church in Frankadua,” a NADMO statement available to Angelonline.com.gh noted.
The organization indicated the District Assembly led by the able leadership of Godwin Bobobee – the District Chief Executive of Asuogyaman, led an initial on-site assessment in the company of Assembly Members of the affected areas.
The assessment included documentation and photographic evidence to guide further intervention.
“The Asuogyaman District Assembly, in collaboration with NADMO, the Ghana Health Service, and other relevant stakeholders is working to ensure that the affected individuals receive the necessary support including food, bedding, and medical assistance.”
NADMO said long-term soultions are being explored to address the root cause of the flooding and to prevent future occurrences.
Meanwhile Member of Parliament of the area, Thomas Ampem Nyarko has provided first hand relief to the victims, donating GHC2,000 each to each of the 16 households.
