The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has announced that it will continue the collection of approved tolls and fees throughout the Christmas and New Year festivities, including weekends, as part of efforts to sustain essential city services during the peak season.
The Assembly said it has also activated 24-hour sanitation and security operations to support continuous waste evacuation, routine clean-ups, rapid response to sanitation incidents, and enforcement at key public spaces, markets, transport terminals, and major corridors.
The decision, according to the AMA, in a statement is aimed at matching increased commercial and social activity during the festive period with uninterrupted services, particularly in sanitation and public safety.
The Assembly urged traders, transport operators, market users, and the general public to comply fully with AMA regulations in line with its relevant bye-laws.
These include the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (Operation of Commercial Vehicles) Bye-laws, 2017, which require commercial vehicles operating from approved stations to pay a daily toll; provisions on lorry park fees.
It mandate drivers to pay prescribed fees and obtain tickets upon entry; and the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (Public Markets) Bye-laws, 2017, which establish tenancy arrangements for stores and stalls in public markets.
The AMA further encouraged fee-paying members of the public to insist on official receipts or tickets for all payments and to report any unauthorised collections to the appropriate Assembly offices.
It also appealed to residents and visitors to cooperate with authorised AMA officers and partner agencies, and to support city cleanliness by using approved waste disposal points and avoiding practices that contribute to choked drains and flooding.
