Drivers and Vehicle Licensing Authorities (DVLA) has commenced road operations to inspect serial numbers on defective vehicle (DV) plates.
Speaking to the media, Assistant Manager of compliance and enforcement at the DVLA, Kofi Ansah Appenteng, said the enforcement exercise was triggered by investigations into a rise in forged DV plates in circulation.
“We are looking at number plates that are not prescribed by the DVLA, you going to see our team using digital tablets to be checking, we have every information of the serial numbers given to them in our system.
“Our investigation shows that a lot of 2026 forged number plates are in the system, so it was necessary for the compliance enforcement to hold an enforcement activities to find out what is really happening,” he stated.
He added that the authority has also noticed that many people have been forging the “Driving from Port” (DP) stickers issued to them at the port.
Mr Appenteng further warned that anyone found guilty of such acts will be prosecuted.
“We will be prosecuting anyone with a forged plates, expired DV and even sticker.
“It has come to our attention that the stickers we issue from the port most of them are also forging it so anyone caught up with that will be prosecuted so we are having a collaboration with the MTTD today,” he said.
