The government has officially launched the Film Development Fund with a seed capital of GH₵20 million, marking what industry leaders describe as a major milestone for Ghana’s film and audio-visual sector.

Speaking at the launch on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, Executive Secretary of the National Film Authority (NFA), Kafui Danku, described the development as a breakthrough for the creative industry, which has long struggled with limited financial support.

“This is a milestone for the Ghanaian film and audio-visual industry. For the first time since the inception of the NFA, we have a fund, seed capital of GH₵20 million,” she said.

She noted that access to funding has been one of the major challenges facing filmmakers and content creators in the country, adding that the establishment of the fund represents a long-awaited solution.

“For a very long time, this has been a challenge. And now the government has fulfilled its promise by providing this GH₵20 million seed fund,” the actress and film producer added.

According to her, the fund is not only intended to support film production but also to ensure long-term growth and sustainability within the industry.

“This is seed money, so we are going to use it wisely, not just to boost the industry, but to grow the fund and the entire audio-visual sector,” she emphasized.
