The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has advised the public to stay away from overturned tankers at accident scenes, warning that even the smallest spark can trigger a devastating explosion.

In a public advisory on Facebook, Wednesday, May 20, 2026, the Authority indicated that an explosion could cause “serious injuries, loss of life, and extensive property damage.”

The NPA pointed out “Your safety is priceless” and stressed that safety must come first at all accident sites involving petroleum products.

The Authority further entreated the public to always resort to reaching out to trained professionals to handle such incidents.

“Call trained professionals such as the Ghana National Fire Service on 192 or Ghana Police Service on 191 to handle the scene or reach out to the National Petroleum Authority.”
