The Accra High Court has granted bail to the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe Abronye, in the sum of GH¢100,000 with two sureties.
This follows his arrest and detention by the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) on May 13, 2026.
As part of the bail conditions, his travel documents have been confiscated, preventing him from leaving Ghana while inquiries are ongoing.
The ruling came after the court adjourned proceedings on Wednesday, May 20, when prosecutors requested additional time to prepare a response to the bail application.
Abronye faces two charges, offensive conduct likely to disturb public peace and spreading false information.
His lawyer, Daniel Amartey Addo, supported by former Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame, opposed the adjournment, arguing that the prosecution had already been served with the application on May 14.
Assistant State Attorney Grace Delali Tali acknowledged that the motion was ready for hearing but maintained that the prosecution required more time to consult investigators and review the case thoroughly.
In its decision, the court stated that it had weighed the prosecution’s request against the rights of the accused and found it necessary to grant the adjournment in the interest of justice
