The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA), has shut down the Processing Plant of Gan He Mining Resource Development Company Limited at Abreshia in the Western Region over regulatory breaches.
This comes after the EPA, on Tuesday, May 27, 2026, conducted an inspection of the company’s operations in the Wassa East Municipality of the region.
The inspection exercise, led by Harrison Harron Afful, the Authority’s Deputy Director in charge of Mining Operations followed an earlier notice issued on January 27, which directed the company to address several environmental and operational concerns within three months.

However, during the inspection, the EPA task force observed that the concerns raised had not been addressed.
According to the Authority, the situation had worsened, with little or no effort made by the company to comply with the directives outlined in the initial notice.
Briefing the media after the exercise, Mr. Afful stated that Gan He Mining Resource Development Company Ltd had failed to comply with the conditions and regulations governing its mining permit in Ghana.

He explained that the company’s continuous disregard for environmental and operational regulations left the EPA with no option but to take immediate enforcement action.
As a result, the EPA ordered the immediate shutdown of the company’s processing plant and underground water dewatering operations until further notice.

The EPA reiterated its commitment to ensuring that all mining firms operating in Ghana strictly adhere to environmental safety standards and regulatory requirements.
