Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, has directed all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to move into affected communities with emergency response teams following heavy rains that caused flooding across several parts of the region on Monday, June 29, 2026.
In a statement issued by the Greater Accra Regional Co-ordinating Council, the Minister said she was “deeply concerned” about the flooding and extended sympathy to individuals and families who have suffered losses, displacement and other hardships.
“I want to assure every affected resident that you are not alone. We stand with you during this difficult period,” she stated.
The Minister said the safety and well-being of residents remain her highest priority.
She has directed MMDCEs to work with NADMO officers and other technical officials to intensify rescue operations, evacuate persons trapped by floodwater where necessary, assess the situation on the ground and provide immediate relief to affected residents.
“Every MMDCE is expected to remain fully engaged until the situation is brought under control,” she said.
The Regional Coordinating Council is working closely with the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the Ghana Police Service (GPS) and other emergency response agencies to coordinate efforts and protect lives and property.
The Ghana Meteorological Agency has indicated that more rainfall is expected.
The Minister therefore urged all residents to exercise extreme caution and avoid unnecessary movement. “Where possible, remain indoors and keep away from flood-prone areas, drains and fast-flowing floodwaters,” she said.
She also appealed to parents and guardians to keep children safe and not allow them to play in floodwater or attempt to cross flooded roads and drains.
Residents requiring emergency assistance have been asked to contact NADMO on Emergency Lines: 0302 772395 / 0299 344030 or WhatsApp: 055 160 9393.
The Minister further appealed to all residents to cooperate fully with emergency response personnel and comply with all safety directives issued by the authorities.
She added, “To everyone affected by this disaster, I assure you that I stand with you. Together with our Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies and our emergency response agencies, we will continue to work tirelessly to protect lives and assist those in need and support our communities through this challenging period. May God continue to protect the Greater Accra Region and keep us all safe.”
